The School / School Policies / Child Protection Policy

English Language School |Child protection policy

All staff must ensure that their relationships with students do not compromise their professional responsibilities. Staff should:

• Not give out their personal e-mails, addresses, telephone numbers, or other information to students that might suggest a closer relationship is sought.
• All staff are subject to a DBS check. No member of staff will be in unsupervised one to one contact at any time with anyone under the age of 18.
• Avoid physical contact, which may be misconstrued by students.
• Not to have intimate or sexual relationships with students. This is a criminal offence if students are under the age of 18 or vulnerable adults under 25.
• Raise concerns about serious malpractice in accordance with the policy.

For the purpose of the safeguarding children, children and young adults are those under the age of 18, although it can also apply to vulnerable adults under the age of 25.

Alcohol and drugs

Staff must not consume alcohol on the school premises and/or be under the influence of alcohol at work, other than in clearly defined social situations approved by the Owner and/or Director. Staff must not use, possess, sell, manufacture, distribute or knowingly transport controlled substances as set within the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Where medically prescribed drugs or pharmaceutical preparations may affect the safety and efficiency of a member of staff or those under their management or care, the member of staff should seek advice from their GP.

Smoking

Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the school's grounds; this includes the stairs at the entrance and private vehicles where they are being used to carry members of staff, students, visitors or other members of the public whilst carrying out their duties. Any breach of the policy by staff will be dealt with in accordance with the school's Disciplinary procedure.
